Welcome to this site devoted to the baroque lute and theorbo, run by your host, Rob MacKillop.

I spent some 30 years on and off playing various lutes and related instruments, and now wish to share my findings as I once again explore the 17th and 18th-century lute world.

As I write (April 2021), my main focus is the théorbe de pièces, the smaller French theorbo created to play the solo repertoire by Robert de Visée and others. Later this year I will introduce the 12-course baroque lute, and explore the transitional stage between and including Renaissance and Baroque tunings.

Some people have asked if they can contribute to my costs, so here is a safe PayPal link. All contributions big or small most welcome: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/SupportRob?locale.x=en_GB
